Get to know WPT with WPTalks! In this content series, we introduce our colleagues from different departments, starting with our support desk central Europe and Benelux - Okan Kartal. Below is a short interview where Okan will tell you what he does and how he helps our customers contribute to our global circular economy.

Who are you and what is your department at WPT?

"Hello, my name is Okan Kartal, and I work at the Support Desk Central Europe and Benelux."

How long have you worked at WPT?

"I have been at WPT since 1st August 2024."

‍

What is your role at WPT?

"I am responsible for planning the purchased and sold loads of waste paper and plastics. I ensure that this runs as smoothly as possible by booking time slots and taking care of any bookings. I am also involved in customs matters for freights from the United Kingdom."

How do you start your day at WPT?

"In the morning I always sit down at my laptop and open all my systems. I check my email and deal with the most important things straight away, if possible. Then I grab something to drink and see what's planned for the day."

How do you help customers?

"By listening and asking the right questions. I believe that this is the essence of helping the supplier, customer or carrier as best as possible and identifying the right request for assistance."

What languages do you speak and which one do you speak the most with customers?

"I speak Dutch, English, a little German (though I can understand it better) and basic Turkish. I mainly speak English with our contacts, but sometimes I try to respond in their own language. This is of course with the help of Google Translate ;) But it is appreciated and I receive many nice responses in return!"

What is your favourite part of your role?

"Serving all parties involved as best as possible so that everything runs smoothly and looking for the best solutions together. I also think it's great that we are present in so many countries. This way you get the norms, values ​​and cultural aspects of all countries. You notice that this also influences the way they work and do business. I find this to be very nice!"
